2. Can you maintain or press yourself?

Let's start with the conclusion: No, it shouldn 't. There are three reasons:

• Safety: The fire extinguisher interior is a pressured container. Self-pressure may exceed the design pressure; self-dismantling may spray a fire extinguisher, lock-off ejection; dry powder inhalation stimulates respiratory tracts.
• The maintenance, repair and inspection of fire-fighting installations and equipment shall be performed by the registered contractor.
• Technology: Filling is not only "refilling some powder, refilling some gas", but also excreting pressure, disassembling valves, checking the interior wall, replacing seals, using a specific fire extinguisher with a propellant gas, weight, pressure, leak detection, labelling.

III. Six myths about maintenance and filling

VI. Reloading process by the contractor

Qualifications are not "roadside gas" and typically include:

1. Appearance inspection: cylinders, valves, screws, labels, structural problems directly suggest replacement.
2. Depression: Full release of internal pressure in a safe environment.
3. Dismantling valves, pouring out old fire extinguishers: dry powder will be recycled or properly discarded.
4. Internal wall check: see if there is internal rust, water gas; water pressure tests due.
5. Replace the sealed with the damaged widget.
6. Fill it with plant specifications: check it with a given type of fire extinguisher with the same weight.
7. Pressure is equal to leakage detection: the propellant gas is injected into the specified pressure to check for leakage.

Do you have to change everything?

1. Deficiencies in the body structure

If the pressure container structure is damaged, even if it is barely filled, the water pressure test will have a high chance, but the risk is extremely high.

XI. After maintenance or replacement: FS251

• After completing the inspection, maintenance or repair, the registered contractor must issue to the client, within 14 days, a certificate of FS251 fire installations and equipment and send a copy to the fire department.
• When fully loaded, fire extinguishers will be branded with new inspection labels to record the date with the contractor.
• Commercial premises should maintain calendar year FS251, filling records, hydraulic test records and replacement records to facilitate fire patrols, insurance claims and internal management.
• The replacement fire extinguisher is also issued by the contractor after installation by the supplier.

Frequent issues FAQ

Can fire extinguishers be repaired or pressured?

I can't.
